1:1 Somatic Sessions

Our individualized sessions integrate occupational therapy, trauma-informed yoga, and somatic practices to create a safe and supportive space for healing. These sessions focus on gently reconnecting with your body, balancing the nervous system, and fostering a sense of safety and stability from within. Together, you and your practitioner will work collaboratively, honoring your unique needs and preferences at every step. By addressing stored patterns and tension in the body, somatic work can help cultivate resilience, enhance emotional regulation, and promote a deeper sense of embodiment. These sessions provide a compassionate space to explore self-awareness, ease physical discomfort, reduce stress, and support long-term healing and well-being.

Somatic Session Frequently Asked Questions

Somatic sessions are highly personalized and evolve as the client’s needs change. Together, a plan is created that adjusts over time, allowing the client to make progress at their own pace. The focus is on deepening the connection with the body, emotions, and inner experience while addressing any challenges that arise throughout the process.

Somatic sessions differ from traditional talk therapy by emphasizing body awareness and the integration of the mind, body, and spirit. While talk therapy helps process thoughts and emotions, somatic practices tap into the body’s wisdom. This approach supports the release of stored stress, trauma, and tension through techniques like movement, breathwork, and mindfulness.

In somatic sessions, a variety of techniques are used, including body awareness practices, breathwork, mindfulness, gentle movement, yoga, meditation, journaling and more. These tools help clients tune into their body’s sensations, thoughts and emotions, creating a deeper connection to their inner experience and supporting the healing process.

Somatic sessions help you reconnect with the wisdom that resides within your body, creating space for healing in a gentle and supportive way. By tuning into physical sensations and emotions, you can release stored tension and create a sense of balance. These practices support your body’s natural healing process, helping you navigate stress, anxiety, and life’s challenges with more ease. With this work, you’ll build deeper self-awareness, emotional resilience, and a sense of safety and well-being, all at your own pace.

Yoga is sometimes incorporated into somatic sessions, but it is not a consistent part of every session (unless the client so chooses). The approach is flexible, and the focus is always on what works best for the client’s needs at that particular time, whether that includes yoga or other somatic practices.

Since our somatic sessions are designed from an occupational therapy perspective, they are specifically tailored to integrate seamlessly into your daily life. The practitioner will work closely with you to ensure that the strategies and practices are practical, manageable, and aligned with your lifestyle. The goal is to create meaningful, sustainable changes that support your well-being without adding unnecessary stress or making you feel overwhelmed. This collaborative approach ensures that the practices become a natural and supportive part of your routine, helping you maintain balance and ease in your everyday life.

Yes, somatic sessions are conducted in a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their emotions and sensations at their own pace. The practitioner is trauma-informed, ensuring that the work is gentle, adaptable, and tailored to each client’s healing process, always prioritizing safety and comfort.

Collaboration with a client’s existing counselor, therapist, or healthcare provider is welcomed to enhance both somatic sessions and counseling work. This integrated approach ensures that the therapies complement one another, supporting the client’s overall healing and promoting progress in both areas.

For somatic practices, it’s important to wear clothing that feels comfortable and supportive. Choose loose, breathable clothes that allow you to move freely, such as leggings, yoga pants, or soft athletic wear. The goal is to feel at ease in your body, so wear what makes you feel most comfortable and safe. If you have any concerns about movement or how you feel in your body, please let the practitioner know, and adjustments can be made to ensure you feel supported throughout the session.
